6TH AIRPORT OPENED NEAR LONDON

The International Air Transport Association has incorporated Southend Airport into the London metropolitan area. This airport will now be called London Southend.

Now, when planning a trip to London, you can choose from 6 airports: Heathrow, City, Luton, Gatwick and Southend. It is planned that by 2020 the airport will serve up to 2 million passengers a year.

Alistair Welch, commenting on the convenience of passenger service at Southend Airport, gave an approximate time that a passenger will spend on a particular operation. For example, passing the pre-flight security check, a passenger will spend no more than 4 minutes, upon arrival, if there is only hand luggage, it will be possible to leave the terminal in 15 minutes, and if waiting for baggage in 30 minutes.
