Samedan International Airport (Flughafen Engadin) is located 5 kilometers to ski resort St. Moritz in Switzerland. Airport is situated in a valley at an altitude of 1,707 over sea level that makes it highest altitude airport in Europe certified for jet aircraft. Samedan is also one of the most difficult airports for pilots. Mountain landing approach, winds and light high-altitude air demand high piloting skills, experience and technique. To perform flights to Samedan pilots need to pass special training and get certificate.
Samedan airport runway length is 1,800 meters. Together with thin air this puts limitations on maximum takeoff weight and as a result on maximum flight range when departing from Samedan. Airport is used only for group charter flights, private jet flights and general aviation.
